Symptomatic/syndromic assessment and testing - Symptomatic/syndromic assessment and testing involves the use of observation, clinical interview, clinical tests and inventories and other methods for the purpose of diagnostic framing of the client's presenting emotional, behavioural and cognitive problems.
Behaviour assessment and testing - assessment and testing of behaviours is complementary to symptomatic assessment - depending on the specialisation, different methods can be used, from observation or clinical interview, to the use of scales or technological support.
Evaluation and development testing - Developmental assessment and testing refers to expert judgement based on an empirical methodology to quantify developmental delays or abnormalities - language, intellect, memory, attention - and overlaps to some extent with cognitive ones, but the focus is on comparing the subject against a normative but dynamic standard of development.
Assessment and testing of cognitive skills - The assessment and testing of cognitive abilities (especially of adults) is an integral part of the core competencies of the clinical psychologist in the classical and established understanding of the field. The testing of these skills has less impact in counselling and almost no impact in psychotherapy, but it has an important role in the work of psychologists in geronto-psychology or neuropsychology (especially in the assessment of brain-injured patients).
Breathing/relaxation techniques - programmes accessible to clinical psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapists alike, aimed at achieving the relaxation response for a range of clinically relevant situations (anger management, panic and other states of psychological activation).
Relaxation/mindfulness programmes - relaxation / mindfulness programmes are a structured and protocolised way of clinical intervention in the prevention of depressive relapses, in preparation for exposure to anxious or traumatic situations, but also for the initiation of therapeutic intervention programmes for addictions or eating behaviour problems.
Psychological techniques for sleep and eating hygiene, or sexuality intervention - basic elements of the psychophysiology of sleep, eating or sexual behaviour is a possible primary intervention pathway that can prepare the therapeutic process or promote the identification of healthy or comforting alternatives for the client.
